Winter 2019 Opening Weekend

8th – 10th June

We are kicking off winter 2019 in style!

We’ve got a massive line-up of entertainment and excitement to welcome winter.

Aussie electronic duo Bag Raiders are headlining a free concert in the Village Square on Saturday with Mickey Kojak, Purple Sneakers and Close Encounters. Get ready for 5 hours of non-stop tunes and party vibes – including Bag Raiders’ new single “Lightning” and old favourite “Shooting Stars”. Ending the night with a bang, we’ve got the region’s biggest fireworks display!

The king of carving, Kenji Ogawa fires up chisel and chainsaw to create an ice sculpture that becomes the centrepiece of the popular Mumm Long Lunch.

There’s plenty to excite the kids. Look out for the roving magician, alongside a big program of things to do including a village wide treasure hunt, face painting and art sessions.

Heineken has teamed up with Thredbo this winter to turn the Village Square into a massive live concert venue for everyone to enjoy. The Thredbo Village Square will play host to the Heineken Concert Series under the alpine night sky, with each concert featuring an amazing line-up of Australia’s hottest music acts and pop-up Heineken bar. The concerts are for all-ages and are free. Enjoy some great tunes after a big day of skiing and snowboarding the mountain…the perfect way to end your day.

Full Moon Party

17th June – 14th September

Time to ignite the night and Howl at the moon at Thredbo’s best nightclub for the famous winter Full Moon Parties.  Free entry, buses from Jindabyne, free glow paint and some of the best DJ’s in Australia! See you on the dancefloor and let’s get Thredbo lit!

Thredbo Snow Series

28th June – 6th September

It’ 2019 and we’re back baby! The MASSIVE Thredbo Snow Series is prepped for another huge winter! With five big events that incorporate five different styles including rails, ridercross, freeride, slopestyle and big air. Each event has their own unique set up, which will allow the judges to highlight the best talent in the country. The Snow Series is all about a friendly atmosphere, allowing the athletes to push themselves in a fun & competitive environment.

With one of the biggest prize pools to date sitting at over $65k in cash and prizes…competitors are going to have to bring their A game! It’s not all about the pro’s though, we have added extra junior and grommet categories this year.
The Thredbo terrain park crew have some ideas up their sleeves to build creative and unique set-ups for everyone to enjoy!

July Kids Snow Festival supported by Aspen

1st – 19th July

There’s something for everyone these school holidays, with a mountain of terrain to explore, a huge line up of free activities and plenty of après for Mum and Dad. The Kids Snow Festival is a favourite for kids of all ages with movie and pizza nights, special kids flare run, night skiing, loads of activities on and off the mountain plus lots more.

Yuki Birds Girls Ride Day

We are pumped to bring you the Yuki Birds Sessions!
A series of events to bring all of you awesome birds together to ride the park, cruise the mountain or just meet some other awesome like-minded birds.

WHO?
You and your buddies. Share it around and come up with your gal pals.
(Although we want everyone to partake, please note that to be able to register, we need to ensure that you are at a level of snowboarding where you feel comfortable cruising down a blue run)

WHAT?
A day of snowboarding & fun with some other legends on the hill. Learn a new trick in the park, adventure over the mountain and meet some other legends to have fun with.

Mumm Apres Sessions ft. Sweet Mix Kids

11th – 13th July

Grab a glass of Mumm and enjoy New Zealand’s best après band come to life at the new Alpine Bar with Sweet Mix Kids.

These Mumm Apres Sessions are the perfect way to unwind from a day on the slopes, relax by the fire pits and be entertained as Sweet Mix Kids come to life with their engaging show.

Torah Bright Mini Shred

14th July

Hey Mini-Shredders! Come and spend the day riding with Torah Bright and her pro friends as they coach you through your own private terrain park. Suitable for skiers and boarders of an intermediate level of riding or above, join Torah and friends in the Friday Flat Private Terrain Park where you’ll learn how to slide a rail or box for the first time, hit a jump or progress to a 180 or 360. An awesome day filled with for all mini shredders to attend…don’t miss out!

Redlands Cup

15th July

The Redlands Cup has been the traditional curtain raiser to the Sydney Snowsports Race Week. It is consistently the largest single day snowsports event in Australia with well over 600 competitors regularly taking part in skiing and snowboard races. The age of the competitors ranges from Preschool to Year 12, and whether they be snaking snowploughers or speeding schussers, the emphasis is always about fun!

The Redlands Cup is proud to have held the races for 21 uninterrupted years on the testing Thredbo courses. Usually there are 3 courses which are generally set according to age group: the teenagers get tested a little more than the prep schoolers. A few Olympians and quiet a few World Cup athletes have competed in the Redlands Cup. Jarryd Hughes, Lavinia Crystal, Samantha Kennedy, Luke Kneller, Adam Lambert and Josh Miller have gone on to race Alpine and Snowboard at the World Cup level.

Travelplan Ski Sydney Interschools Snowsports Championships

16th – 20th July

The Interschools Snowsports Championships encourages students of all abilities and levels to compete for their school in a competitive snowsports competition. Students can compete in up to seven snow sports disciplines for skiers and snowboarders.

It focuses on fun in skiing and snowboarding at the regional Championships; all set in a framework of friendly competition. As the competition steps up to the State and National levels, the level of competition and the difficulty of the courses also steps up; but always with a sense of fair and enjoyable competition.

The Interschools Championships is a starting block for further snow sports competition and has seen 20 Olympians start their career at Interschools competitions. During the Northern winter, everyone enjoys hearing results from former and current Interschools participants who are representing Australia overseas.

Vive le Wine Dinner

17th July

Thredbo’s iconic on-mountain restaurant is taking dining to new heights with the Kareela Hutte Starlight Dinner events during July and August. These exclusive experiences will see guests transported to and from Kareela Hutte by snowcat under the wide, star filled Thredbo night sky.

On July 17th things kick off beneath a bright full moon with a celebration of wine at the Vive le Wine Dinner. This dinner is the ultimate showdown between old world French wine and new world Australian wine. Over five courses created by Thredbo Alpine Hotel’s Executive Chef Kane Stamp,  sample nine wines and let your palate decide the victor. Sip, sip, hooray!

Jye’s Jam

24th July

Thredbo Resort with thanks to Burton Snowboards and Thredbo ambassador Jye Kearney will once again host the third annual Jye’s Jam.

A progressive urban rail competition held on the iconic stair set at Friday Flat.

Twelve of the best riders in the Southern Hemisphere are handpicked by Jye himself to compete in a 1.5 hour jam session. The concept is for all riders to leave their competitive hunger at home and instead push each other to go bigger and better each hit. This is a guaranteed fun night for all – see you there!

Christmas in July

25th July

We’re dreaming of a White Christmas… In Thredbo! Enjoy a snowy Christmas in the mountains. Thredbo will have a cool mix of festivities to celebrate in true Thredbo style.

Look out for Santa giving out warm Christmas cookies throughout the day on the mountain and come meet the cheeky big man in the red suit on Friday Flat from 3.30pm – 4.30pm to snap a special picture with the Family.

Racers Ready? The annual Top to Bottom Race is back for 2019!

The iconic Top to Bottom is Australia’s richest, fastest and longest downhill race for skiers and boarders and with over $25,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs, it’s one of the most lucrative as well…definitely worth slipping into the lycra.

The race starts at the top of Thredbo, as the sun rises riders line up at the top of the 3.2-kilometre course with their skis and boards in hand. They then run in boots for a 100-metre dash before they strap and click in for a fast-paced blast to the bottom. This is where the battle begins as riders head to the village below, dropping 600 vertical metres navigating, gates, straights and other racers.

The event draws over 300 competitors across eight categories, it starts at dawn with racing over before first lifts. This year past and present Olympians and racers are in the line-up including Pyeongchang silver medallist snowboarder Jarryd Hughes, last year’s winner Scott Kneller and young guns will all be competing.

UniSport Nationals Snow returns to Thredbo from 25-29 August 2019 and will see Australia’s best university students battle it out on the slopes in the four sports of alpine, freestyle, cross-country skiing and snowboard to find which universities will be crowned champions!

Snowtunes, Australia’s only music festival in the snow returns to Lake Jindabyne this August featuring some of the hottest Australian and International artists as headlining acts. Rainbow Mountain is hitting Thredbo this winter again, bigger and queerer in 2019 with the Heaps Gay crew pumping up the colourful winter wonderland vibes in Thredbo. The 5 day festival is jam-packed with on and off snow events for all divas to divulge in! From parties, après, huge live concerts, sparkling lunches, on-mountain races and so much more, it’s a week ya’ll don’t wanna miss! It’s the highlight event of the season that’s set to sparkle up the snow.

Heaps Gay are once again bringing some of Sydney’s biggest entertainment from LGBTQIA community made up of DJ’s, bands, drag queens, entertainers, performance artists, hostesses and more! Make sure you get your beauty sleep beforehand, as it’s gonna be a chockablock 5 days.

Holy Bowly Down Under

9th – 15th September

Get excited!!! Holy Bowly is making it’s way Down Under this winter for the first ever Holy Bowly in the Southern Hemisphere.

What is Holy Bowly? It’s is an insane new style of event that’s gained huge popularity in the Northern Hemisphere based around shredding a one-of-a-kind custom setup with no rules on how to find the right line. Presented by Snowboy Productions, Thredbo, Quiksilver, Libtech and Modest Eyewear the legendary Holy Bowly will take over Antons Terrain Park for the biggest and coolest snowboarding event to ever take place in the Southern Hemisphere…for an entire week…with the world’s best snowboarders!

The event is going down across 9-15 September, with the course open for public shredding on the 14th & 15th! What does that mean? It means that you and your mates a free to shred the entire set up all you want on the Saturday and Sunday alongside the best snowboarders in the world.

It’s so much more than a snowboarding event, Holy Bowly is an annual international gathering of riders committed to getting as creative as possible on unique hand-shaped bowls, hips, spines, berms and transitions for all those looking to surf the snow, with the ultimate goal of sharing the true stoke of snowboarding.

5th – 6th October

Pull out your lederhosen and Dirndl to send off the winter season with music, games, drinking and feasting at Australia’s highest Oktoberfest!

With German Biers, an array of tantalizing German delights and music by the Venus Trio, come and celebrate the end of winter and the start of Oktober at Poolside.

Thredbo Pondskim

6th October

When the snow starts to melt, the sun comes out and it’s the perfect time to throw on boardies and come up to the Thredbo Pond Skim. Nothing beats a season ender party in the pond!

Scoring:
Participants will receive one attempt to cross the pond successfully. All participants who successfully skim the length of the pond during the first round qualifiers will advance to the finals, where skimmers can receive a total of 30 points based on three elements:

Making it across the pond – 10 points
Costume – 10 points
Style and crowd response – 10 points
Based on the scoring system it is possible to win the Thredbo Pond Skim without making it across the pond in the finals.

Judges are encouraged to judge costumes on craftsmanship, creativity and time spent putting the costume together.
